Who are you?
I'm Michael, the founder of Poppin.
The idea of starting Poppin came about in 2022. This was after trying just about every different kind of roof tent there is for a Defender and always feeling like there was too much of a compromise. Giving up roof space, having to set up in the rain and worst of all.. The dreaded pack up.
I ventured into the high end premium range of hard shell tents and found myself staring at price tags in the region of £3k-£6k. The eye watering cost aside, we all know the unfortunate stress that comes with living in the UK and having such an expensive item attached to your vehicle that can be so easily removed and stolen.
I knew there had to be a better way... And there was. It was a pop top.
Again I ventured out into the market but the idea of having little or no change from £10,000 for a pop top conversion on my Landy didn't stack for me.
Like most defender owners, I like to get my hands dirty. So I set off on the mission to research, design and produce a pop top that was made for owners like me.
It had to meet the performance of other pop top conversions available, but how do we keep the cost down? Simple... You.
That's right, you're the secret sauce in this idea.
Me!? But I don't know anything about Pop Tops?
That's cool, I didn't either. I'm not a mechanic or some engineering genius. I'm a regular Land Rover owner with some basic tools, a drive way and a degree from the YouTube school of, "how to fix this noise on my Landy"
I like to think you're reading this thinking, "that sounds like me too" and that's the point.
We've created something that you can install, with limited (maybe questionable) technical ability, on your driveway, maybe with a mate and a couple of beers.
We've done all the thinking for you, you just need to Paint, assemble and install. Easy!
Easier than predicting the British weather to start the job anyway.
So where is it made?
Right here in Shropshire.
Our kit is handcrafted in Britain which is something we're extremely proud of. We're the only British company who make these kits for DIY install
It doesn't just stop there though, we source everything we can this way too so our hinges, gas struts and canvas are also made here.
