The idea of starting Poppin came about in 2022. This was after trying just about every different kind of roof tent there is for a Defender and always feeling like there was too much of a compromise. Giving up roof space, having to set up in the rain and worst of all.. The dreaded pack up.
I ventured into the high end premium range of hard shell tents and found myself staring at price tags in the region of £3k-£6k. The eye watering cost aside, we all know the unfortunate stress that comes with living in the UK and having such an expensive item attached to your vehicle that can be so easily removed and stolen.
I knew there had to be a better way... And there it was, a pop top.
Again I ventured out into the market but the idea of having little or no change from £10,000 for a pop top conversion on my Landy didn't stack for me.
Like most defender owners, I like to get my hands dirty. So I set off on the mission to research, design and produce a pop top that was made for owners like me.
It had to meet the performance of other pop top conversions available, but how do we keep the cost down? Simple... You.
